The average price paid for white pan bread and whole wheat bread increased in March.

WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread and whole wheat bread increased in March, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 144c, up 0.5c per lb from February and up 8.1c from March 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in March increased in three regions — up 1.2c in the Midwest, up 0.6c in the West and up 0.2c in the South — and was unchanged in one region — the Northeast.

At 204.2c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 1.8c per lb from February but down 2.2c per lb from March 2014.

The national average price of family flour in March was 51.8c per lb, down 0.7c from February and down 3.3c from March 2014.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in March was 139.2c per lb, up 7.3c from February and up 8.5c from March 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were 348.6c per lb, up 0.9c from February and up 6.2c from March 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 67c per lb, down 1.9c from February and down 6.3c from March 2014.
