Betting on breakfast
Bacon, blueberry muffins and other breakfast flavors are inspiring new snacks and confections.
“There were several maple and maple syrup flavored candies, some products that have waffles in them, of course, bacon — that’s been popular for a couple of years, a lot of yogurt snacks,” Ms. Whiteside said. “We’ve been saying, ‘Hey, the Sweets & Snacks Expo is bringing breakfast back!’ So that was one trend that really made me laugh and smile as I was going through (the products). I thought that was really fun.”
Morning mealtime was the muse behind two new chocolate bars from Chuao Chocolatier. The Cinnamon Cereal Smooch bar features milk chocolate mixed with bits of cinnamon toast cereal, and the Strawberry Waffle Wild bar contains tart dried strawberries and crispy waffles embedded in milk chocolate.
Maple sweetens several new snack products, including SuperSeedz maple sugar and sea salt pumpkin seeds, Jelly Belly pancakes and maple syrup jelly beans, and Lance Quick Stars maple french toast sandwich crackers.
