A taste of nostalgia
Snack makers are capturing the comforts of childhood in new treats with tasty twists on old familiar flavors. S’mores stars several new products, including a new peanut butter cup variety from Bacci Chocolate Design and truffles from JC’s Pie Bites.
“We noticed how much influence there was from nostalgia,” Ms. Whiteside said. “When I say nostalgia, I don’t necessarily mean nostalgic candy products, which of course has always been a trend, but I mean more around nostalgia for flavors. Fountain sodas, s’mores, pies, birthday cake, lemonade, a lot of things that are likely to stir up wonderful memories. We saw a lot of products in that vein.”
New from DeMet’s Candy Co. is Flipz Birthday Cake Covered Pretzels, featuring salted pretzel twists with a creamy, frosting-flavored coating. Charms Co. has introduced Boutique Pops, a line of gourmet lollipops in such flavors as creme brulee, cinnamon bun, birthday cake and root beer float. Hammond’s Candies harnesses home-baked classic desserts with new bourbon pecan pie and grasshopper pie chocolate bars.
And Wolfgang Candy Co. has introduced a line of chocolate-coated mini pretzels in classic soda fountain flavors. Varieties include root beer float, coated with creamy milk chocolate blended with a root beer flavor, and orange cream soda, featuring orange cream-infused white chocolate.
