La Chiquita is one of the largest premium tortilla makers in the United States.

ORLANDO, FLA. — La Chiquita Tortilla Manufacturer, an Atlanta-based maker of flour tortillas, is considering Orlando as a possible site for a new plant, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Citing documents filed with the city, the Orlando Sentinel said La Chiquita is considering a total capital investment in Orlando of $9.8 million in construction and equipment. The company also is considering Texas, the Carolinas and Virginia for the second plant. It recently opened a new 120,000-square-foot facility in Atlanta.

Founded in 1979, La Chiquita makes two different types of flour tortillas: hand stretched and pressed. The hand stretched tortillas are made thin and flaky, and are ideal for friable flour tortilla needs, i.e. taco salad bowls and chimichangas, the company said. The pressed flour tortillas are thick and pliable, and are ideal for burritos and fajitas.

La Chiquita claims to be one of the largest producers of premium tortillas in the United States. In addition to flour tortillas, the company makes tortilla chips and tortilla flour.
