The average price paid for white pan bread increased 1.4c per lb in April.

WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 1.4c per lb in April while the price of whole wheat bread decreased 3.4c in the month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 145.5c, up 1.4c per lb from March and up 6.6c from April 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in April increased in three regions — up 7.8c in the Northeast, up 1.7c in the Midwest and up 0.9c in the West — and was down 1.6c in one region — the South.

At 200.8c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 3.4c per lb from March and down 8.4c per lb from April 2014.

The national average price of family flour in April was 50.9c per lb, down 0.9c from March and down 3.8c from April 2014.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in April was 133.7c per lb, down 5.5c from March but up 9.6c from April 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were 333.5c per lb, down 15.1c from March and down 24.4c from April 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 67c per lb, unchanged from March and down 8c from April 2014.
