WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 0.4c per lb in June while the price of whole wheat bread decreased 8.4c in the month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 146.7c, up 0.4c per lb from May and up 6.7c from June 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in June increased in two regions — up 5.2c in both the Northeast and the West — and was down in two regions — down 3.5c in the South and down 2.7c in the Midwest.

At 195.7c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 8.4c per lb from May and down 7c per lb from June 2014.

The national average price of family flour in June was 51.9c per lb, down 0.1c from May and down 1.3c from June 2014.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 136c per lb, up 2.5c from May and up 9.3c from June 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were 328.6c per lb, up 7.4c from May but down 3.8c from June 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69.1c per lb, up 1.5c from May but down 5.1c from June 2014.
