HORSHAM, PA. — To help advocate meals with more nutrients, especially whole grains, Bimbo Bakeries USA, through its Nature’s Harvest bread brand, has launched its first-ever “Nature’s Harvest Sandwich Art Photo” contest.

From Aug. 24 to Sept. 6, visitors to the Nature’s Harvest Facebook page (www.facebook.com/naturesharvestbreads) may submit sandwich art creations, using any of the Nature’s Harvest bread varieties. A panel that includes celebrity chef and mom Kelsey Nixon will judge the creations on visual appeal, creativity and the incorporation of nutritious ingredients. The top 10 sandwich art semi-finalists will be posted to the Nature’s Harvest Facebook page from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20 for fans to vote. Winners will be revealed in mid-October.

Kara Reddy, senior brand manager of Nature’s Harvest bread.

“In our recent survey of moms with children ages 4 to 13, we learned that nearly half of moms are concerned about their children’s nutrition and that 52% consider whole grains one of the most important nutritional considerations when purchasing food at the grocery store,” said Kara Reddy, senior brand manager, Nature’s Harvest bread. “Just in time for back-to-school, the ‘Nature’s Harvest Sandwich Art Photo’ contest will help families put some fun in school lunchboxes across the country and demonstrate that whole grain goodness can come in all different shapes and flavors.”

The grand prize winner in the contest will receive a “Kitchen Crash” from Ms. Nixon where she will prepare sandwich-centric meals with the winner’s family and provide fun sandwich making tips the whole family can implement.

“As a mom, I want the best for my son — and most importantly, I want him to get the nutrients he needs as he continues to grow,” said Ms. Nixon, star of “Kelsey’s Essentials” on Cooking Channel. “Today, children are spending more time in front of the television, and sometimes it’s easy to forget our kids can have just as much fun spending time in the kitchen with their parents. I am thrilled to be involved with the Nature’s Harvest Sandwich Art Photo contest because it is a fun and creative way to get kids excited about nutritious food.”
