WASHINGTON — U.S. 2015 all wheat production was estimated at 2,051,752,000 bus, down 84,287,000 bus, or 4%, from 2,136,039,000 bus forecast in August but up 25,442,000 bus, or 1%, from a revised 2,026,310,000 bus in 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its Sept. 30 Small Grains 2015 Summary.

With the exception of durum, average trade expectations were below U.S.D.A. estimates for all classes of wheat. Wheat futures traded about 5c to 6c a bu higher after the report was released, with added support from a lower-than-expected U.S.D.A. Sept. 1 wheat stocks estimate.

All wheat yield was estimated at 43.6 bus an acre, down 0.5 bus from 44.1 bus in August and down 0.1 bus from 43.7 bus an acre in 2014.

The U.S.D.A. all wheat production number was below the average pre-report trade estimate of 2,139 million bus.

Production of spring wheat other than durum was estimated at 599,080,000 bus, down 21,901,000 bus, or 4%, from 620,981,000 bus forecast in August, but up 4,042,000 bus, or 1%, from 595,038,000 bus a year ago. The average yield was estimated at 46.3 bus an acre, down 0.7 bus from 47 bus in August and down 0.4 bus from 46.7 bus in 2014.

The U.S.D.A. other spring wheat number was below the average trade expectation of 625 million bus.

Production of hard red spring wheat was estimated at 564,107,000 bus, down 11,870,000 bus, or 2%, from 575,977,000 bus in August but up 8,564,000 bus, or 2%, from 555,543,000 bus in 2014. Hard white spring wheat production was estimated at 5,526,000 bus, down 4,738,000 bus, or 46%, from 10,264,000 bus forecast in August and down 3,417,000 bus, or 38%, from 8,943,000 bus in 2014. Soft white spring wheat outturn was estimated at 29,447,000 bus, down 5,293,000 bus, or 15%, from 34,740,000 bus forecast in August and down 1,105,000 bus, or 4%, from 30,552,000 bus in 2014.

Durum outturn was estimated at 82,484,000 bus, up 5,704,000 bus, or 7%, from 76,780,000 bus forecast in August and up 28,428,000 bus, or 53%, from a revised 54,056,000 bus in 2014. Durum average yield was estimated at 43.5 bus an acre, up 3.3 bus from 40.2 bus an acre in August and up 3.3 bus from a revised 40.2 bus an acre in 2014.

The U.S.D.A. durum number was above the average trade expectation of 78 million bus.

The U.S.D.A. estimated winter wheat production at 1,370,188,000 bus, down 68,090,000 bus, or 5%, from 1,438,278,000 bus in August and down 7,028,000 bus, or less than 1%, from a revised 1,377,216,000 bus in 2014. The U.S.D.A. estimated winter wheat yield at 42.5 bus an acre, down 0.7 bus from 43.2 bus in August and down 0.1 bus from 42.6 bus an acre in 2014.

The U.S.D.A. winter wheat number was below the average trade expectation of 1,432 million bus.

Hard red winter wheat production was estimated at 826,913,000 bus, down 29,087,000 bus, or 3%, from 856,000,000 bus in August but up 88,263,000 bus, or 12%, from a revised 738,650,000 bus in 2014. Soft red winter production was estimated at 359,055,000 bus, down 29,855,000 bus, or 8%, from 388,910,000 bus in August and down 95,476,000 bus, or 21%, from a revised 454,531,000 bus in 2014. Hard white winter wheat outturn was estimated at 15,914,000 bus, up 3,423,000 bus, or 27%, from 12,491,000 bus forecast in August and up 4,368,000 bus, or 38%, from a revised 11,546,000 bus a year earlier. Soft white winter wheat production was estimated at 168,306,000 bus, down 12,571,000 bus, or 7%, from 180,877,000 bus in August and down 4,183,000 bus, or 2%, from a revised 172,489,000 bus in 2014.

The U.S.D.A. hard red winter wheat number was below the average trade expectation of 856 million bus and the soft red winter number also was below the trade average of 384 million bus.

Oats production was estimated at 89,535,000 bus, up 9,527,000 bus, or 12%, from 80,008,000 bus forecast in August and up 19,303,000 bus, or 27%, from a revised 70,232,000 bus in 2014. Average oats yield was estimated at a record 70.2 bus an acre, up 2.3 bus from 67.9 bus in 2014.

The 2015 barley crop was estimated at 214,297,000 bus, up 4,607,000 bus, or 2%, from 209,690,000 bus in August and up 32,755,000 bus, or 18%, from a revised 181,542,000 bus last year.

Rye production was estimated at 11,496,000 bus, up 5,307,000 bus, or 60%, from 7,189,000 bus in 2014.
