FORT WAYNE, IND. — Aunt Millie’s Bakeries, a family-owned company that makes bread and bakery products, will open a new bakery in Lowell, Ind., in the spring of 2017.

The company said it has acquired property in Lowell and will begin renovations as soon as the necessary approvals are received. Aunt Millie’s said it plans to make hamburger and hot dog buns and other baked foods at the bakery.

When fully operational, the new bakery is expected to provide approximately 117 jobs, the company said.

“We are pleased to be making this investment in Indiana, our home state,” said John F. Popp, president. “For some time we have needed additional capacity, and this new bakery will allow us to better serve our Northwestern territory.”

Founded in 1901, Aunt Millie’s operates six bakeries in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, and has more than 50 branch depots and 35 outlet stores in those states, plus Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin.
