ANOKA, MINN. — DecoPac, Inc., a supplier of cake decorations to professional cake decorators and bakeries, announced it will close the Bakery Crafts facility in West Chester, Ohio, on June 30 and transition all operations to its facility in Anoka.
DecoPac acquired Bakery Crafts, a manufacturer of cake decorations, in June 2015. At that time, the companies said they had no plans to consolidate facilities or change the leadership structure.

“This move brought together two strong companies with complementary product lines and markets, and provided additional scale, greater creativity, marketing and design and development skills to enhance product offerings and capabilities for customers and consumers,” said Dewey Wahlin, vice-president of marketing at DecoPac. “Over the past several months, our focus has been on how we can make it easier for customers to do business with our two companies and further strengthen service. Most customers were requesting simplicity — being able to place one order and get product from both companies in a single shipment. Given this important feedback, a decision was made to move all operations to DecoPac’s Anoka, Minn., facility. As a result, the West Chester, Ohio, facility is being closed.”
Bakery Crafts was founded in Cincinnati in 1947 by Jack and Natalie Guttman. The cake decoration business grew, and ownership began transitioning to their three children Sam, Dan and Debbie in the early 1980s.
DecoPac began as part of McGlynn Bakeries, which started in 1919 as a single retail bakery in Minneapolis. DecoPac was formed internally to supply cake decorations to its own stores, as well as other bakeries. Since 1987, DecoPac has maintained relationships and licensing agreements that provide the company rights to market cake decorating products featuring popular characters from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Nickelodeon, Mattel, DreamWorks, Peanuts and other licensors, such as all major sports leagues. DecoPac, which employs 200 in the United States, also owns Culpitt and Sugarfayre in the United Kingdom and operates three manufacturing and distribution facilities in North East England. Culpitt, Ltd. and Sugarfayre are the largest cake decoration suppliers in the United Kingdom and employ more than 200 people.
