PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo, Inc. on March 30 announced a series of senior executive changes, including the departure of Tom Greco, chief executive officer of Frito-Lay North America (F.L.N.A.).
“Tom has been a strong and valued leader inside PepsiCo for more than three decades, and has made lasting contributions to our business,” said Indra Nooyi, chairman and c.e.o. of PepsiCo. “He is leaving PepsiCo to pursue his long-standing career goal of being c.e.o. of a company outside our industry. He leaves F.L.N.A. in great shape. We thank him for his service and wish him nothing but the best as he begins a new chapter in his career. PepsiCo’s deep bench of world-class leaders and our top-notch talent development capabilities allow us to elevate our next generation of talent into bigger roles.”
In line with Mr. Greco’s departure, PepsiCo said several individuals have been promoted within the company, including Al Carey, Kirk Tanner and Vivek Sankaran.

Mr. Carey, c.e.o. of North America Beverages (N.A.B.), has been promoted to c.e.o. of North America. In his new role, Mr. Carey will oversee N.A.B., F.L.N.A. and Quaker Foods North America (Q.F.N.A.). PepsiCo said bringing the company’s three North America businesses under a single leader is expected to enable the company to further leverage its complementary brand portfolio across snacks, beverages and nutrition to unlock new growth opportunities. Mr. Carey is a 35-year veteran of PepsiCo. In addition to leading N.A.B., he has held various senior roles across snacks, beverages and food service during his career, including c.e.o. of F.L.N.A., c.o.o. of PepsiCo Beverages and Foods North America, senior vice-president of sales for Pepsi-Cola North America, c.o.o. of F.L.N.A., president of F.L.N.A.’s West business unit, and general manager of F.L.N.A. Foodservice.

Mr. Tanner, currently chief operating officer of N.A.B. and president of Global Foodservice, has been promoted to president and c.o.o. of N.A.B. A 24-year veteran of PepsiCo with experience across snacks, beverages and food service, Mr. Tanner has worked in 11 domestic and international locations during his PepsiCo career and held numerous leadership roles across sales, operations, customer marketing, distribution and channel development. He will lead all aspects of PepsiCo’s beverage business in North America.

Mr. Sankaran, currently c.o.o. of F.L.N.A., has been promoted to president and c.o.o. of F.L.N.A. Since joining PepsiCo in 2009, Mr. Sankaran has held senior leadership positions spanning snacks, Power of One customers, and corporate strategy, including as chief commercial officer for PepsiCo North America, chief customer officer for F.L.N.A., senior vice-president and general manager of F.L.N.A.’s South business unit, and senior vice-president of corporate strategy and development. He now will lead all aspects of PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay snacks business in North America. Prior to joining PepsiCo, he was a partner at McKinsey, where he advised Fortune 100 companies with a focus on retail and high tech.
