WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread fell 1.2c per lb, while the price for whole wheat bread decreased 0.8c in September, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 132.9c, down 1.2c per lb from August and down 10.3c from September 2015. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in September decreased in two regions — down 6.3c in the Northeast and down 3c in the West — and increased in two regions — up 1.7c in the South and up 0.7c in the Midwest.

At 197.4c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 1.8c per lb from August and down 3.4c per lb from September 2015.

The national average price of family flour in September was 54.7c per lb, up 0.1c from August and up 3c from September 2015.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in September was 128.9c per lb, down 0.3c from August but up 0.7c from September 2015. Chocolate chip cookies were 330c per lb, up 8.1c from August but down 6.6c from September 2015. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 72.1c per lb, down 0.8c from August but up 5.9c from September 2015.
