WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 1.4c per lb, while the price for whole wheat bread increased 3c in October, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 134.3c, up 1.4c per lb from September but down 7.5c from October 2015. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in October increased in three regions — up 8.2c in the Northeast, up 0.4c in the South and up 0.3c in the West — and decreased in one region — down 1.3c in the Midwest.
At 200.4c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 3c per lb from September and up 2.6c per lb from October 2015.
The national average price of family flour in October was 52.3c per lb, down 2.4c from September but up 1.2c from October 2015.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in October was 129.2c per lb, up 0.3c from September but down 0.5c from October 2015. Chocolate chip cookies were 347c per lb, up 17c from September and up 7.9c from October 2015. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69.7c per lb, down 2.4c from September but up 0.7c from October 2015.
