WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread was unchanged in December, while the price for whole wheat bread decreased 6.4c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 136.2c, unchanged from November but down 6.6c from December 2015. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in December increased in two regions — up 3.2c in the Midwest and up 0.5c in the South — and decreased in two regions — down 4c in the West and down 0.7c in the Northeast.
At 196c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 6.4c per lb from November but up 1.1c per lb from December 2015.
The national average price of family flour in December was 50.3c per lb, down 0.4c from November but up 0.2c from December 2015.The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in December was 128.7c per lb, down 1.5c from November and down 0.5c from December 2015. Chocolate chip cookies were 340.9c per lb, up 4.3c from November and up 9.3c from December 2015. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69.3c per lb, down 1c from November and down 1.8c from December 2015.
