BELFAST, MAINE — Carl C. Hauswald Jr., former executive of Hauswald Bakery and a past president of the American Society of Baking, died Feb. 12. He was 94 years old.
Mr. Hauswald attended the American Institute of Baking and in 1947 joined the Hauswald Bakery, which was a member of the W.E. Long Co.-Independent Bakers’ Cooperative. He rose to the role of vice-president and general manager of Hauswald Bakery, which made white pan, whole wheat, cracked wheat and other bread as well as bread stuffing under the Holsum label. In 1989, Hauswald Bakery was acquired by Schmidt Baking Co.
Mr. Hauswald’s professional memberships included the Potomac State Bakers Association and the A.S.B., where he served as president in 1970. He also was a member of the board of the American Bakers Association.He is survived by his wife, Norma; a son, David, of Thornton, Colo.; a daughter, Nancy, of Belfast; a brother, John, of Salisbury; a sister, Myrtle Walker, of Baltimore; a grandson and two step-grandsons.
