RIDGWAY, COLO. — The Wheat Foods Council will hold its summer board meeting and other events June 15-16 in Manhattan, Kas.

Events on the morning of June 15 include a group hike and a visit to the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center followed by lunch at the K.S.U. Dairy Bar. The afternoon will feature a virtual tour of the Kansas State University Biosecurity Research Institute by Stephen Higgs, Ph.D., of Kansas State University; a presentation on control of post-harvest pests by Subramanyam Bhadriraju, Ph.D., of Kansas State University; an update on new Food and Drug Administration food labels by Elaine Meloan of AIB International; and a tour of AIB International. Dinner will take place at the Tallgrass Tap House.

The board meeting will take place on June 16 followed by a spaghetti dinner sponsored by the North Dakota Wheat Commission and the North Dakota Mill and Elevator Association at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan.

Both a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run and a 1-mile “fun” run will take place the morning of June 17 as part of “The National Festival of Breads,” a family festival at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Wheat Foods Council is a sponsor of the two runs.

Members of the Ridgway-based Wheat Foods Council include grain producers, millers and bakers, baking suppliers, life science companies, and cereal manufacturers. The W.F.C. develops educational and promotional nutrition programs that reach health and nutrition professionals, opinion leaders, media, and consumers.
