CHICAGO – Archer Daniels Midland Co. reported progress in palm oil traceability, soybean sourcing and reducing its use of water and energy in a 2016 corporate sustainability report released May 11.
The Chicago-based company has achieved 98% traceability for palm oil and 95.5% traceability for palm kernel oil. In soybeans, ADM completed a sourcing analysis for Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia; advanced its efforts to map sourcing systems and processes in Brazil and Paraguay; and continued to work on identifying and testing methodology and monitoring tools to implement a system to detect deforestation of native vegetation.
ADM since 2010 has reduced energy intensity by 25% and emissions by 11% on a per-unit-of-production basis. ADM since 2008 has reduced water use by 24% on a per-unit-of-production basis. The company instituted site visits and training programs in Paraguay, Brazil and India as part of implementing a policy called “Respect for Human Rights.” ADM in 2016 also contributed more than $11 million to charitable causes.
