LOUISVILLE, KY. — Long John Silver’s is testing Hostess Deep Fried Twinkies in two test markets this spring with plans to launch the product nationwide later this summer.

The lightly battered traditional Hostess Twinkie is filled with vanilla cream. The hot treat is currently a limited time offer only available in Pittsburgh and St. Louis at participating locations for 99c until July 23.

“What’s going to make Long John Silver’s menu more crave-able? Adding the Deep Fried Twinkie to our menu,” said Katie Rooprai, vice-president of brand marketing for Long John Silver’s. “We know from decades of experience that people crave our food. They will pass several other restaurants to satisfy their Long John Silver’s craving. We think the Deep Fried Twinkie will be the perfect sweet ending for those making the trip.”

Hostess introduced Deep Fried Twinkies in August 2016 in 4,000 Wal-Mart stores nationwide. The Deep Fried Twinkies were developed in collaboration with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., which worked with Hostess to improve the taste, appearance, packaging and naming based on tests and consumer insights.

Featuring a creamy filling, the Deep Fried Twinkies are dipped in a funnel cake-like batter and flash-fried before they are frozen. They may be prepared in an oven, toaster of deep fryer.
