Scoular

OVERLAND PARK, KAS. — Al Smiley and Matt Jackson have joined The Scoular Co. to head Scoular’s millfeed merchandising business. The two will work from the company’s offices in Omaha.

Before joining Scoular, Mr. Smiley was a senior merchandiser at Gavilon Group for nine years, and he was a senior merchandizer at Conagra Brands, Inc. for 13 years before that. Similarly, Mr. Taylor was a merchandiser at Gavilon from 2009-17. He spent two years before that at Conagra.

Gavilon was established in 2008 with the sale by Conagra of its Trading and Merchandising business to Ospraie Management L.L.C. Gavilon was acquired by Marubeni Corp., a Japanese trading company, in 2013.

Paul Maass, Scoular chief executive officer, expressed confidence Mr. Smiley and Mr. Taylor would strengthen Scoular’s presence in the millfeed market.

“Our commitment to growing a successful millfeed program and hiring the talent to manage it will expand our product and service offering to our customers, and grow and further diversify our company’s portfolio of businesses,” Mr. Maass said.

Mr. Maass, who was named c.e.o. of Scoular in August 2016, began his career in the millfeed business at Conagra. He headed the company’s feed ingredient business for several years before he was promoted to president of ConAgra Mills in 2003. Later he was named president of the company’s Commercial Foods division.
