ORRVILLE, OHIO — Sales of the Uncrustables brand of frozen sandwiches surged in the first quarter for the J.M. Smucker Co. Uncrustables was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult first quarter (period ended July 31) for Smucker. While the company’s overall sales and profits were down, Uncrustables sales jumped 13% from the same period in 2016. The future of Uncrustables was the subject of discussion in an Aug. 24 conference call with investment analysts.

“In June, we broke ground on our new Uncrustable sandwich plant in Longmont, Colo.," said Mark T. Smucker, president and chief executive officer. “When complete in 2020, we will have the capacity to double sales from the $225 million level we realized over the past 12 months, which includes this quarter’s double-digit sales growth.”
