WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 2.1c per lb in October, while the price for whole wheat bread increased 2.3c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 132.8c, down 2.1c per lb from September and down 1.5c from October 2016. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in October decreased in all four regions — down 3.7c in the South, down 1.5c in the Midwest, down 1c in the West and down 0.2c in the Northeast.

At 200.9c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 2.3c per lb from September and up 0.5c per lb from October 2016.

The national average price of family flour in October was 50c per lb, down 0.5c from September and down 2.3c from October 2016.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in October was 125.9c per lb, down 4c from September and down 3.3c from October 2016. Chocolate chip cookies were 351.1c per lb, up 1.7c from September and up 4.1c from October 2016. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 72.3c per lb, down 1.8c from September but up 2.6c from October 2016.
