OSTERBURKEN, GERMANY — Robert Zimmermann will be retiring as one of the managing partners of the AZO Group after 27 years of service. He will depart at the end of 2017. Continuing the AZO Group’s legacy as a family-owned business, Rainer Zimmermann will become the sole managing partner.

Robert Zimmermann was born in 1951 as the oldest son of the company’s founders, Adolf and Marianne Zimmermann. In 1990, he and his younger brother Rainer Zimmermann became joint managing partners of the company, which was founded in 1949.


At the time of the takeover by the two brothers, AZO had 650 employees worldwide at its Osterburken-based headquarters and at a service and sales subsidiary in the U.S. Today, the AZO Group’s turnover is US$211,348,800 (€180 million). It has a staff of more than 1,000 that are employed at three productions sites in Germany and at seven international sales and service subsidiaries.

One of Robert Zimmermann’s top priorities was investment in training and continuing professional development for the company’s staff. He worked as a chair of the local board of trustees at Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Mosbach, Germany, and was also active on the supervisory board at the DHBW in Stuttgart, Germany. Rainer Zimmermann assuming sole management will ensure a continuation of the company’s development policy, according to AZO.
