On a personal note, the editorial staffs on Baking & Snack and Milling & Baking News would like to congratulate Laurie Gorton, executive editor of Baking & Snack magazine, who received the Robert A. Fisher Award from the American Society of Baking (A.S.B.) for her distinguished service to the organization. The award is given out annually during the society’s technical conference. Laurie certainly deserves it.
A member of the A.S.B. for 40 years — that’s hard to imagine — she has served on numerous committees in various capacities over the years. She currently serves as a member of A.S.B.’s Baking Hall of Fame Evaluation Committee. Yes, she has regularly presented papers and given speeches during the society’s technical conference. But as co-workers, we know one thing. Laurie deserved the award for her work behind the scenes to promote the society and its members. She has never been one to embrace the center stage.
As Paul Lattan, publisher of Baking & Snack, said most wonderfully, “I have worked with Laurie for nearly 25 years and can’t imagine a more deserving person to have received this award. In addition to being one of the smartest people I know, she is also one of the kindest. It’s a pleasure to work with Laurie, and I’m proud to see her recognized for her dedication and commitment to the baking industry.”
Please give a “shout out” to Laurie Gorton.
