The successful 2008 event covering packaging machinery and devices, packaging materials, and confectionery and bakery equipment attracted 2,746 exhibitors from 60 countries and 179,000 visitors from around the world. Exhibitor numbers for the 2011 show currently meet 2008 levels, according to Messe Düsseldorf North America, the show organizer.
“interpack 2011 will again impressively underline its status as the world’s most important trade fair for the international packaging sector and related processing industries,” said Bernd Jablonowski, project director of interpack 2011. “The positive responses from exhibitors and visitors confirm our strategy to approach special topics in areas, which promise to be of importance in the future.”
Themes for interpack 2011 include safety and security, convenience, and sustainability. In regard to safety, vendors will offer solutions to guard against product piracy, to allow for traceability and to promote hygienic manufacturing methods. The evolving consumer demands for convenient products as well as the need for functional packaging and materials will be covered. The event also will touch on the need to conserve resources and sustainable packaging solutions.
New at interpack this year is the Metal Packaging Plaza and the Save Food international congress, which will be held in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations May 16-17.
The Save Food congress will highlight the issues of global food waste and explore solutions through innovative packaging. The event will bring together shareholders from the food and packaging industries, retail and government sectors, R&D and the public. Topics during the 2-day congress will include world food, food safety, urbanization, food development, marketing, logistics, recycling and agriculture.
Reduced-rate entrance passes to the show can be ordered in advance at www.interpack.com. A one-day pass is €49 (US$66) and a 3-day pass is €99 (US$134). On-site tickets run €55 (US$74) for a one-day pass or €128 (US$173) for a 3-day pass. Show directories can also be ordered in advance for €34 (US$46), plus shipping and handling. All halls feature terminals equipped with KATI computerized catalog display system to help locate exhibitors and products in each hall.
Also, new this year is the option to print eTickets prior to the show. These eTickets can be converted into badges at turnstiles at the show. Visitor, exhibitor and press entrance passes allow free use within the Rhine-Ruhr regional network of Düsseldorf. Show exhibitors also can ride public transportation free two days before and after the show. Public transportation is recommended to get to the fairgrounds. Exhibit halls are linked by protected walkways and moving sidewalks and shuttle buses are available.
