The wait is nearly over; interpack 2011 is just around the corner. The triennial show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 12-18 at the Düsseldorf Trade Fair Center on the German city’s fairgrounds and will cover Halls 1 through 17.

The successful 2008 event covering packaging machinery and devices, packaging materials, and confectionery and bakery equipment attracted 2,746 exhibitors from 60 countries and 179,000 visitors from around the world. Exhibitor numbers for the 2011 show currently meet 2008 levels, according to Messe Düsseldorf North America, the show organizer.

“interpack 2011 will again impressively underline its status as the world’s most important trade fair for the international packaging sector and related processing industries,” said Bernd Jablonowski, project director of interpack 2011. “The positive responses from exhibitors and visitors confirm our strategy to approach special topics in areas, which promise to be of importance in the future.”

Themes for interpack 2011 include safety and security, convenience, and sustainability. In regard to safety, vendors will offer solutions to guard against product piracy, to allow for traceability and to promote hygienic manufacturing methods. The evolving consumer demands for convenient products as well as the need for functional packaging and materials will be covered. The event also will touch on the need to conserve resources and sustainable packaging solutions.

The Save Food congress will highlight the issues of global food waste and explore solutions through innovative packaging. The event will bring together shareholders from the food and packaging industries, retail and government sectors, R&D and the public.
