WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in November was $4.79 per bu, up 32c from $4.47 in October but down $1.50 from the November 2008 average of $6.29, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agriculture Prices report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in November was $4.50 a bu, up 24c from $4.26 in October but down $1.15 from $5.65 in November 2008.
The average price paid for durum was $4.47 a bu, down 50c from $4.97 in October and down $4.46 from $8.93 in November 2008. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $5.22 a bu in November, up 23c from $4.99 in October but down $1.88 from $7.10 in November 2008.
The average price paid for rough rice was $14.10 per cwt, down 10c from October and down $5.30 from $19.40 in November 2008.
The November index of prices received for food grains was 171 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, up 5.6% from the revised October index of 162 but down 25% from the November 2008 index of 227.
The November index for feed grains was 157, up 1.3% from a revised 155 the previous month but down 16% from 187 in November 2008. The average price received for corn in November was $3.64 a bu, up 3c from October but down 62c from $4.26 in November 2008. Farmers received an average of $5.79 a cwt for grain sorghum in November, up 24c from $5.55 in October but down 69c from $6.48 in November 2008. The average price paid for oats in November was $2 a bu, down 3c from October and down $1 from a year ago.
The U.S.D.A. index of November prices received for oil-bearing crops was 165, up 1.9% from a revised 162 in October but down 4.6% from 173 in November 2008. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $9.48 a bu, up 4c from October and up 9c from November 2008.
The November index for dairy products was 115, up 5.5% from a revised 109 in October but down 12% from 131 in November 2008. The average price paid for manufacturing grade milk in November was $14.40 a cwt, up 90c from $13.50 in October but down $2.50 from $16.90 in November 2008.
The egg and poultry index was 137, up 7.9% from 127 in October but down 8.1% from 149 in November 2008. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was $1.01 a dozen, up 21c from 80c in October but down 1c from November 2008.
