WASHINGTON — The total amount of liquid product from shell eggs broken in January was 212,631,000 lbs, up 1% from December 2008 but down 5% from the previous year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest

Egg Products report.

January production of edible whole eggs was 137,298,000 lbs, down 6% from the previous year; liquid whites were 49,489,000 lbs, down 4%; liquid yolks were 25,844,000 lbs, down 5%; and inedible product totaled 18,734,000 lbs, down 7%, the U.S.D.A. said.

Shell eggs broken in January totaled 162,670,000 dozen, down 5% from the previous year and equal to levels in December 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.
