WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of eggs, turkey and cheese in warehouses on March 31 were greater than year-earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest

Cold Storage report.

Total frozen egg stocks on March 31 were 20,592,000 lbs, down 7% from February 2009 but up 26% from March 2008. Frozen stocks of egg whites were 2,649,000 lbs, down 5% from a month earlier and down 8% from a year ago. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 1,042,000 lbs, up 21% from the previous month and up 9% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 8,486,000 lbs, down 8% from February 2009 but up 33% from March 2008.

Total natural cheese stocks were 892,482,000 lbs, up 2% from the previous month and up 8% from the previous year. Total butter stocks were 215,218,000 lbs, up 5% from the previous month but down 4% from the previous year.

Total turkey stocks were 507,931,000 lbs, up 10% from February 2009 and up 19% from March 2008. Total chicken stocks were 634,700,000 lbs, down 2% from the previous month and down 17% from the previous year. Overall, total frozen poultry supplies were 1,146,930,000 lbs, up 3% from the previous month but down 4% from the previous year.

Total red meat supplies were 1,040,848,000 lbs, down 4% from February 2009 and down 6% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Total frozen beef stocks were 422,457,000 lbs, down 3% from the previous month and down 1% from the previous year. Frozen pork stocks totaled 593,197,000 lbs, down 5% from February 2009 and down 10% from the previous year. Frozen pork belly stocks were 73,331,000 lbs, down 3% from February 2009 and down 26% from March 2008.

Total frozen vegetable stocks were 1,825,093,000 lbs, down 8% from February but up 12% from the previous year.

Stocks of frozen french fries were 990,791,000 lbs, up 5% from February 2009 and up 13% from March 2008.

Stocks of all types of frozen fruit totaled 917,819,000 lbs, down 12% from February but equal to levels in March 2008.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 1,266,008,000 lbs, up 1% from the previous month and up 23% from the previous year.

Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage totaled 2,860,253,000 lbs, down 22% from the previous month but up 19% from the previous year.
