WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of eggs, cheese, turkey and pork on May 31 were greater than year-earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest

Cold Storage report.

Total frozen egg stocks on May 31 were 21,226,000 lbs, up 16% from April 2009 and up 71% from May 2008. Stocks of egg whites were 2,750,000 lbs, down 6% from the previous month and down 5% from the previous year. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 990,000 lbs, down 2% from April but up 8% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 9,174,000 lbs, up 24% from April and up 70% from May 2008.

Total natural cheese stocks were 957,046,000 lbs, up 5% from the previous month and up 9% from the previous year. Total butter stocks were 251,057,000 lbs, up 5% from April 2009 but down 7% from May 2008.

Turkey stocks were 585,661,000 lbs, up 2% from April 2009 and up 12% from May 2008. Total chicken stocks were 641,456,000 lbs, down 3% from the previous month and down 15% from the previous year. Overall, total frozen poultry supplies were 1,232,079,000 lbs, equal to levels in April but down 4% from May 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.

Total red meat supplies were 1,025,339,000 lbs, down 2% from April and equal to levels from the previous year. Total frozen beef stocks were 414,259,000 lbs, up 1% from the previous month but down 1% from the previous year. Frozen pork stocks totaled 584,136,000 lbs, down 5% from April 2009 but up 1% from the previous year. Frozen pork belly stocks were 79,139,000 lbs, down 1% from April 2009 and down 9% from May 2008.

Total frozen vegetable stocks were 1,574,651,000 lbs, down 8% from April but up 17% from the previous year.

Stocks of frozen french fries were 965,717,000 lbs, down 1% from April 2009 but up 13% from May 2008.

Stocks of all types of frozen fruit totaled 913,817,000 lbs, equal to levels in April and up 9% from May 2008.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 1,451,669,000 lbs, up 5% from the previous month and up 1% from the previous year.

Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage totaled 1,462,516,000 lbs, down 30% from April but up 47% from May 2008.
