WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in June was $5.69 per bu, down 15c from $5.84 in May and down $1.93 from the June 2008 average of $7.62, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest

Agricultural Prices report.

The national average price received for winter wheat in June was $5.54 a bu, up 2c from May but down $1.97 from $7.51 in June 2008.

The average price paid for durum was $7.13 a bu, up 8c from $7.05 in May but down $1.35 from $8.48 in June 2008.

The average price of spring wheat other than durum averaged $6.74 a bu in June, down 2c from May and down $3.36 from $10.10 in June 2008.

The average price received for rough rice was $14.80 a cwt, down 40c from $15.20 in May and down $1.70 from $16.50 in June 2008.

The June preliminary index of prices received for food grains was 194 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, down 3.5% from the revised May index of 201 and down 24% from the June 2008 index of 255.

The June index for feed grains was 169, down 2.3% from a revised 173 the previous month and down 27% from 231 in June 2008. The average price received for corn in June was $3.93 a bu, down 4c from May and down $1.54 from $5.47 in June a year ago. Farmers received an average of $6.08 a cwt for grain sorghum in June, up 10c from May but down $4.02 from $10.10 in June 2008. The average price paid for oats in June was $2.23 a bu, down 41c from $2.64 in May and down $1.33 from $3.56 in June 2008.

The U.S.D.A. index of June prices received for oil-bearing crops was 207, up 8% from a revised 191 in May but 12% lower than 236 in June 2008. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $11.60 a bu, up 90c from $10.70 in May but down $1.50 from $13.10 in June 2008.

The June index for dairy products was 87, down 2.2% from a revised 89 in May and down 41% from 148 in June 2008. The average price paid for manufacturing grade milk in June was $11 per cwt, up 10c from $10.90 in May but down $8.50 from $19.50 in June 2008.

The egg and poultry index was 147, up 3.5% from May but down 4.5% from 154 in June 2008. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was 60c per dozen, down 1c from May and down 46c from 1.06 in June 2008.
