Buhler Aeroglide’s AeroExpander uses hot air to puff pellet snacks so they have the same flavor and mouthfeel as those expanded in oil. The system enables 100% product expansion efficiency. The unit —available in 300, 600 and 1,200 kg per hour capacities — combines two of the company’s core technologies: rapid heating and precision conveying. Dual plenums evenly distribute heated air across the processing bed, so that air completely surrounds each pellet. The company’s proprietary conveyors provide accurate control of retention time and ensure no product gets caught in the corners of the unit. While oil is not needed to expand pellets, a small amount is usually added afterward to provide the desired mouthfeel and taste.
