STABLE STACKED SNACK FOOD CONFIGURATION

• US Patent No. 7,700,143 (April 20, 2010), D. Baylor, et al., assigned to Frito-Lay North America, Inc., Plano, TX.

A method for making asymmetrical snack pieces that can be effi ciently nested or stacked uses a dough preform that is mated with a mould as the preform is cooked into a snack piece. The preform takes the shape of the mould. The mould is designed so that the resultant snack piece, when resting upon a flat surface, has an apex and a base of equal height. The mould controls the centroid of the snack piece so it lies in a plane that is parallel to a plane formed by the vertices of the snack piece. The snack pieces can then be efficiently nested or stacked.
