The patent describes a packaging method for storing and heating a hot dog and bun in the microwave. The hot dog is sealed within an inner wrapper, and a bun is positioned within a tray and sealed with an outer wrapper. The tray is in contact with more than one surface of the bun to partially shield portions of the bun from direct radiation during heating in a microwave oven. Prior to microwaving, the inner and outer wrappers are removed. Generally, the food products have a refrigerated shelf life of at least 75 days, and they may be reheated from a frozen state with improved moisture control.
