AMELIA ISLAND, FLA. — Supercharged by a banner ad posted at no charge by AOL, participation in the Bread Art Project of the Grain Foods Foundation has expanded rapidly. As of April 8, more than 10,000 art submissions have been accepted at the site, double the number on April 2.

The campaign allows Internet users to create a work of art using a piece of bread as an easel. While they navigate the site ( "artists" and gallery "visitors" see a wide range of facts about enriched flour and domestic hunger issues.

The G.F.F. is partnering with Feeding America, the nation’s largest food relief charity in the art project.

The public service announcement posted about the bread art on AOL helped ramp up traffic dramatically, said Kristin Patterson, an account manager at Mullen for the G.F.F. She noted that the partnership with Feeding America was key in securing the AOL placement. Ms. Patterson and colleagues gave an overview of the program during an April 6 presentation at the American Bakers Association board of governors meeting at the Ritz Carlton hotel, Amelia Island, Fla.
