CHICAGO — The Institute of Food Technologists has named Senator Kent Conrad from North Dakota and Congressman Bob Goodlatte from Virginia as the recipients of its annual Congressional Support for Science Award.

Mr. Conrad helped write the 2002 and 2008 farm bills, is one of the most senior members of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and is a longtime supporter of country-of-origin labeling.

Mr. Goodlatte is on the House Agriculture Committee and is a ranking minority member of the subcommittee of conservation, credit, energy and research. He also secured funding for the Biodesign and Processing Research Center at Virginia Tech.

The Congressional Support for Science Award recognizes work as legislator, policy-maker or advocate for advancing the role of science and technology in food and agriculture policies.
