LA CROSSE, WIS. — Kwik Trip Inc., which operates a chain of 365 convenience stores in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, is moving forward with plans to double the size of its bakery in La Crosse.

The $23 million project would create an 80,000-square-foot addition to the company’s existing 80,000-square-foot bakery at Larson and Palace streets in La Crosse.

The La Crosse City Plan Commission was scheduled to vote June 1 on a resolution that would free up space to accommodate the project, but the meeting was canceled due to a lack of voters. The La Crosse planning department has recommended approval of the resolution, though, assuming several conditions, including that Kwik Trip begins construction at the site within 12 months.

According to the City Plan Commission report, Kwik Trip would be required to spend at least $7 million to construct the bakery building and must add approximately 100 new jobs.

The Kwik Trip bakery in La Crosse produces a variety of donuts, bagels, cookies, sweet rolls, muffins, buns and bread.
