MANHATTAN, KAS. — The Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University has scheduled a workshop to explore potential alternatives for methyl bromide. The workshop is part of a larger effort by Kansas State University, Purdue University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service Grain Marketing and Production Research Center and industry collaborators to improve the structural fumigation process and advance the adoption of methyl bromide alternatives in the grain-based foods industry.

The workshop, "MB Alternatives: Focus on ProFume and IPM Tactics," will be held Aug. 19-21 at the International Grains Program Conference Center in Manhattan and will feature presentations by representatives from Kansas State, Dow AgroSciences, Archer Daniels Midland Co., American Rice Inc. and Fumigation Services & Supplies.

As part of the workshop, the Hal Ross Flour Mill will be fumigated with sulfuryl fluoride. The workshop, which is limited to 50 participants, costs $150 per person.
