NORWICH, VT. — The National Festival of Breads, cosponsored by King Arthur Flour and Kansas Wheat, will be featured on the syndicated cooking program "Mr. Food" airing July 28.

The program is part of a two-day event that kicks off July 27 with a focus on how wheat is produced by Kansas farmers and processed into flour and then bread. The next night the show will showcase the National Festival of Breads and the winning recipe, "Tomato, Basil, Garlic Filled Pane Bianco," created by Dianna Wara, a baker from Washington, Ill.

The National Festival of Breads was held June 17 and brought eight contestants from across the United States to Wichita, Kas., to compete for cash and prizes valued at $10,000.

"Because Mr. Food invented the ‘Quick-and-Easy’ category of home cooking and baking, Kansas Wheat thought Mr. Food would be perfect to help promote the first-ever National Festival of Breads," said Aaron Harries, director of marketing for Kansas Wheat.

Mr. Food, whose real name is Art Ginsburg, has been on-air for 35 years.

"I’m so happy to have been involved with this year’s Festival of Breads," he said. "I was really impressed by the caliber and variety of recipes submitted. Let me tell you, the judging was tough. Although every recipe was fabulous, the Tomato and Basil Bread chosen as the contest winner stood out as a personal favorite of mine."

Mr. Food said the National Festival of Breads helps to promote the time-honored tradition of home baking.

"In these challenging economic times, it’s nice to see people getting back to basics, doing more home baking and taking advantage of our own American-grown Kansas Wheat," he said.
