CINCINNATI — Chiquita Brands International, Inc. will enter the dry packaged foods category with the introduction of Chiquita Banana Bread Mix next month. The mix requires two fresh bananas, water and an egg, and when prepared has no trans fats.

The banana bread mix will be manufactured by Boston-based Concord Foods Inc. under a licensing agreement negotiated by Louisville, Ky.-based IMC Licensing.

"This is another example of how we can leverage the Chiquita brand to support the company’s strategy of providing more convenient, healthy food options to meet consumer needs," said Judy Chen, group leader of marketing and business development at Chiquita. Chiquita earlier this year leveraged the brand with the launch of a line of frozen fruit smoothies.

Charles Olins, vice-president of sales and marketing at Concord Foods, said the banana bread mix gives consumers a convenient "from scratch" option.

"Chiquita Banana Bread Mix is a natural companion product for fresh produce, which provides consumers with a unique tasting, healthy treat," Mr. Olins said.

The suggested retail price is $2.59 for a 13.7-oz box.
