RALEIGH, N.C. — Harvest Time Bread of North Carolina L.L.C., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Woodbridge, N.J.-based Harvest Time Bread Co., said it will invest $4.5 million and create 38 jobs as part of an expansion of its operations in Mount Airy, N.C.

As part of the investment, Harvest Time said it plans to purchase the Mount Airy facility, which it has been leasing, and expand operations to better serve the Southeastern U.S. market. The company produces a variety of bread, rolls, whole grain and organic products.

“Before deciding on purchase of the site, Harvest Time explored opportunities in five states,” said Rich Paolino, chief executive officer of Harvest Time. “We were looking for a qualified labor source, proximity to truck transportation routes, affordable utilities and a business-friendly environment. Through the assistance and consistent attention of state and local officials, staying here and expanding in Mount Airy became an easy decision.”

Harvest Time said it will receive a $100,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund in support of the investment.
