OAK BROOK, ILL. — McDonald’s Corp. on March 8 said global comparable sales increased 4.8% in February and 3.6% year-to-date. System-wide sales for restaurants worldwide, meanwhile, increased 11.2%, or 6.4% in constant currencies, during February.

“Our worldwide results for February show that we’re satisfying the needs of our customers around the world by giving them more choice and variety, unbeatable value and the convenience they’re looking for given today’s busy lifestyles,” said Jim Skinner, chief executive officer.

U.S. comparable sales at McDonald’s rose 0.6% behind strong consumer demand for core favorites, including an Olympic-themed Chicken McNugget promotion, the Breakfast Dollar Menu and McCafe beverages.

European comparable sales were up 5.4% due to positive results in the United Kingdom and France, while comparable sales climbed 10.5% in Asia/Pacific/Middle East and Africa. Strong results reflected celebration of Chinese New Year in many markets, McDonald’s said.
