MANHATTAN, KAS. — The Kansas State University Grain Science & Industry Department is celebrating its Centennial in 2010 and will host the official Centennial Celebration Weekend Oct. 1-2.
The official celebratory weekend is as follows:
Oct. 1 (Afternoon)
Centennial Student Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament, Colbert Hills, Manhattan, Kansas
Oct. 2 (Morning)
Open House — Location: meet & greet at International Grains Program (IGP)
Times slots: 9-10 a.m.; 10-11 a.m.; 11 a.m.-Noon
Tour 1: IGP-BIVAP-O.H. Kruse Feed Mill/Biorefinery-Hal Ross Flour Mill
Tour 2: van shuttle to Shellenberger Hall (and back) to visit Pilot Bakery, Cereal Chemistry Labs, Classrooms, Feed Mill
Light lunch at IGP
Oct. 2 (Afternoon)
Science Forum & Posters Highlighting Research of our Faculty, Staff and Students (IGP Conference Center; 1:30-4 p.m.)
Oct. 2 (Evening)
Reception (IGP Atrium; 6-6:30 p.m.)
Banquet Dinner & Program (6:30-9 p.m.)
Invited attendees and speakers include K-State Administrators including President Schulz and other dignitaries from industry and government
Party on the IGP Patio (9 p.m.-???)
Throughout the Centennial year, the department is planning on holding a series of seminars regarding a variety of topics in the areas of grain processing, storage, baking and utilization.
The lectures yet to be held are:
Dr. Jan Delcour, Ph.D, professor, Cereal Science and Technology, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.
Dr. Vijay Singh, Ph.D, associate professor, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The title of the lecture is: "Current Challenges and Future Opportunities for Biorefining."
Dr. A. Dale Whittaker, associate dean, director, Academic Programs, Purdue University. The title of the lecture is: "Bullish on the Future: Why the Pipeline of Agricultural Scientists is So Critical Now."
