PLANO, TEXAS — Frito-Lay North America, a division of PepsiCo, Inc., has introduced two new Lightly Salted varieties of chips: Fritos Lightly Salted corn chips and Ruffles Lightly Salted potato chips. The chips contain at least 50% less sodium per oz than their original counterparts.

“The No. 1 request from consumers is for lower sodium versions of the snacks they love most,” said Ann Mukherjee, chief marketing officer, Frito-Lay North America. “However, they are unwilling to compromise on taste. Lightly Salted meets that consumer need. We will continue to build on this effort and look to deliver even more great-tasting options for those consumers focused on sodium.”

Frito-Lay first launched the Lightly Salted line in 2000, when it introduced Lay’s Lightly Salted potato chips in select markets. In 2010, the company took the line national.

Lay’s Lightly Salted and Ruffles Lightly Salted potato chips have a suggested retail price of $3.99 per 10-oz and 10.5-oz bag, respectively. Fritos Lightly Salted corn chips have a s.r.p. of $2.99 for a 9.25-oz bag.
