FRESNO, CALIF. — The California Raisin Marketing Board encourages professional and student bakers to submit their original raisin-containing bread, roll and pastry formulations by Aug. 16 to enter the Third Annual America’s Best Raisin Bread Contest.

By popular request, the sponsor expanded this year’s contest to include a new category — Breakfast Breads, Rolls or Pastries — in addition to the original Artisan and Commercial categories.

“The California Raisin Marketing Board believes it is important for the baking world to have this type of event to showcase the skill and passion of the working baker,” said Larry Blagg, the board’s senior vice-president of marketing. “Our contest is aimed at discovering the best and most creative California Raisin breads.” He described the products entered in the 2009 competition as “astounding” in the innovation and quality of the products shown.
