OMAHA — The Scoular Co. has agreed to acquire the grain elevators of Ada Grain Co. in Ada and Minneapolis, Kas. The Minneapolis facility has 1,050,000 bus of grain storage capacity, and the Ada facility has 350,000 bus of capacity.

Curt Engel, vice-president of Scoular, said the facilities receive locally produced grain and are expected to strengthen Scoular’s grain origination for its terminal elevators in Salina and Downs, Kas. The company’s other Kansas grain elevators are in Goodland, Wellington and Coolidge.

“Scoular has been serving Kansas farmers for more than 35 years, and we’re looking forward to building upon the dependable service that Ada Grain owners Ray and Margaret McGavran have provided area growers during that same period of time,” Mr. Engel said.

According to the Grain & Milling Annual 2010, Scoular is the eleventh largest grain company in the United States with 52 grain storage facilities with total grain storage capacity of 88 million bus. With the acquisition of Ada Grain’s facilities, Scoular’s grain storage capacity in Kansas will be approximately 20 million bus.
