FRANKLIN, CONN. — Jovial Foods, a company formed earlier this year to deliver products made from ancient grains, has introduced First Ever Whole Grain Einkorn Pasta.
Einkorn wheat is one of the earliest cultivated forms of wheat that primarily is used as a local crop in countries such as France, Morocco and Turkey.
According to Jovial Foods, einkorn is high in thiamin, essential dietary and trace minerals, and is a good source of protein, dietary fiber and a number of B vitamins. In addition, Jovial Foods said einkorn has an oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) twice that of durum and bread wheat, and it has higher content of tocotrienols (a vitamin E) than other species of wheat.
“It is our dream to change the future of agriculture by creating consumer demand for the purest, most ancient varieties of food,” said Carla Bartolucci, co-founder of Jovial Foods. “Our sustainable economic model focuses on farming first and then considers the entire process all the way through to the shelf. We believe the purest food we are all seeking can only come from the purest seed.”
Jovial First Ever Whole Grain Einkorn Pasta is available in five varieties — rigatoni, penne rigate, fusilli, spaghetti and linguine — at a suggested retail price of $3.39 to $3.69 for a 12-oz box. The pasta is available at Whole Foods nationwide.
