Pack Expo Las Vegas will feature an extensive education program with speakers from Kellogg, Interbake Foods, ConAgra, the Grocery Manufacturers Association and others discussing food safety, sanitation, sustainability and myriad critical issues. The show will be held Sept. 26-28 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

www.packexpo.comcosts $99 per session, or $125 per session afterward. Conference registrants must also register for admission to the Pack Expo Las Vegas show floor.

Highlights from some of the key sessions follow.

Leon Bruner, senior vice-president, scientific and regulatory affairs and chief science officer, Grocery Manufacturers Association, will present “On the Food Safety Modernization Act and What Some Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Companies are Doing to Comply with It.” According to Pack Expo Las Vegas, it's safe to say that the new Food Safety Modernization Act is a work in progress. This session will outline the latest on requirements, guidance, regulations, foreign supplier verification and more.

David Anderson, food safety manager, Del Monte Foods, and Lisa Lucore, manager, food safety, W.K. Kellogg Institute, will present “Food Safety Guidelines: Process Validation in Low-Moisture Foods.” This session will discuss upcoming guidelines for process validation in the manufacture of low-moisture foods to ensure the continued production of safe, quality food. Manufacturers, suppliers and food safety experts will present the latest results of their project.

Bill Statelman, manager, corporate packaging engineering, Interbake Foods, and others will present “Going Green: From Should to Good.” Pack Expo noted that CPG companies vary considerably in where they currently are on their sustainability journey, and this session will address some key lessons learned to help them avoid potholes along the way.

Peter Hock, senior director of continuous improvement, ConAgra Foods, and Mark Hanley, asset reliability manager, Land O’Lakes, will tackle the issue of “Core Metrics that Make Operational Reliability Reliable.” The speakers will present upcoming guidelines for using a core set of metrics to enable more meaningful comparisons and improving overall efficiency.
