COLUMBUS, OHIO — English Bay Batter Inc. has begun construction of a refrigerated dough plant in Columbus. An addition to an existing English Bay cookie dough facility, the new $3.1 million plant will produce dough for a wide variety of other products, such as dinner rolls, biscuits, cinnamon rolls and pie crusts.

English Bay said the plant is scheduled to begin production Oct. 1 with full operations set for early January 2013.

The company currently operates a plant in Vancouver, B.C., that produces both frozen cookie dough and the other refrigerated dough products.

David Foster, president of the company, said a significant proportion of English Bay’s products are shipped to the East coast of the United States, a long haul from British Columbia.

“The new location will allow us to compete more effectively with reduced freight rates, lower labor costs, and higher output in the $1.8 billion dollar refrigerated dough category,” he said.
The company’s products are available for distribution to food service, in-store bakeries, club stores and supermarket store brands.
