Sustainability and convenience were the primary themes at interpack 2011, which was held in Düsseldorf, Germany. The huge show attracted 246 exhibitors from the global bakery and confectionery industries, according to show organizers. In all, more than 2,700 exhibitors from 60 nations filled the 19 halls at the convention center in May. In the end, more than 166,000 industry professionals attended the show. More than 60% of them came from outside of Germany.

According to show organizers, exhibitors at interpack 2011 reported having a host of meetings and visitors seemed to be in a buying mode. In fact, many decision makers apparently approached companies with specific orders. “At our stand, there was huge interest in our products. We generated 30% more contacts than in 2008, including members of top management, brand manufacturers and many potential new customers. The message from numerous other exhibitors has been much the same. interpack has confirmed the stability of the positive economic trends,” said Christian Traumann, president of interpack 2011 and managing director of exhibitor Multivac Sepp Haggenmüller, Wolfertschwenden, Germany.

However, attending the show wasn’t cheap because of the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in the arena in the immediate vicinity of the exhibition grounds. As a result, many attendees arrived after May 14, when the song contest ended, according to show organizers.
