SASKATOON, SASK. — The government of Canada has invested $1.1 million in canola industry marketing efforts provided through an $88 million AgriMarketing campaign. Canada in 2010 exported more than 12 million tonnes of canola seed, oil and meal worth more than C$6 billion to key markets, including Japan, the United States, Mexico and China.

“About 85% of canola grown in Canada is exported,” said JoAnne Buth, president of the Canola Council of Canada. “So our marketing efforts are incredibly important to the health of our entire industry. This investment will enable us to continue to maintain and develop markets around the world. It’s great news for our farmers, input suppliers, crushers and exporters.”

The announcement of the investment came July 27 during the Canola Council of Canada’s summer meeting in Saskatoon.
