WASHINGTON — An overview of priorities at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be offered by a top OSHA official at an upcoming joint committee meeting of the American Bakers Association.
David Michaels, assistant secretary of labor for OSHA, will address the joint meeting of the Human Resources, Safety and Distribution committees of the A.B.A. during a meeting to be conducted Jan. 24-25 at the Washington Liaison hotel in Washington.
Other meeting highlights include a “breakfast with bakers” together with Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina and a Capitol Hill reception at the Rayburn Gold Room to which Representative John Kline of Minnesota, a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, has been invited.
The meeting will kick off with a joint session the afternoon of Jan. 24, featuring a legislative and regulatory update by Peter Susser of Littler Mendelson; the OSHA presentation by Dr. Michaels, and a roundtable discussion about policy implications for the baking industry, to be conducted by Randy Johnson, vice-president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The individual committees will meet Jan. 25 with highlights including a presentation to the H.R. Committee by Ilyse Schman of Littler Mendelson about health care reform and what bakers need to know; discussions of the aging work force, combustible dust standards and the noise exposure standard before the Safety Committee; and a congressional transportation preview/overview by Mary Philips, senior vice-president of the American Trucking Association, before the Transportation Committeee.
